4 Things to Know About Dexter's Final Four Episodes

So far this season, he has been working through his guilt by helping Lumen [Julia Stiles]. He's believed that if he can avenge the wrongs done to her, he might be able to figure out whether he can atone for his part in Rita's death, Colleton says. "All of that will be converging, along with a lot of jeopardy that no one could've anticipated, not even Dexter."
And while the producers don't feel pressure to top last season's shocking finale, Colleton says they want to make sure all of this season's puzzle pieces come together in a satisfying way. Here are four things you should know heading in to the Season 5 finale:
4. The Villains Align: Instead of one big villain, this season has seen many. The characters recently began connecting as Dexter [Michael C. Hall] has tracked down those involved in Lumen's assault. "The last four episodes are a freight train when all of those pieces start interlocking," Colleton says.
3. Dexter Juggles His Two Selves: In this week's episode, Dexter's will split his time between dealing with Astor, who has run away from Orlando, and further investigating the barrel girls' case. "It brings Dexter closer to getting to know Jordan Chase [Jonny Lee Miller]," and as a result, Lumen will be put back into harm's way, Colleton says.
2. Quinn Finds a Target: Quinn (Desmond Harrington) started off wanting to uncover Dexter's secret, but his feelings for Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) have clouded his judgment. That is about to change. After his private eye caught pictures of Dexter and Lumen dumping a body in the ocean, Quinn will make a decision that sends him down "a big collision course" between his conflicting agendas, Colleton says.
1. Dexter Sees the Alternative: Colleton says the season's penultimate episode, titled "Hop a Freighter," will pop the question, "Wouldn't it be nice if you could escape from your life?" And the finale? She says only that it's been retitled "The Big One." "When you see the episode, you'll realize what a great title it is."
Dexter airs Sundays at 9/8c on Showtime.

CSI: NY: Is John Larroquette Really a Bad Guy?

Appearances are often deceiving on television.
Emmy winner John Larroquette, who wraps his three-episode CSI:NY arc Friday, says the same is definitely true for his character. Larroquette plays Manhattan Chief of Detectives Ted Carver, who first butted heads with Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) over how to handle the media during a sniper case.
Last week, Mac's team found the body of Carver's sister buried in Central Park, and Mac began to suspect that Carver is somehow connected to the 15-year-old case. Larroquette admits that his character is not blameless, but advises that viewers wait to make up their minds.
"As much as it points toward him being [the villain], that opinion may be altered by the end of the episode," Larroquette says. "We find an empathy and, by the end, a sympathy for his condition and his history that we'll discover."
Executive producer Pam Veasey says the writers conceived the arc to challenge Mac, who always believes in doing what's right — even if it means busting your boss. Veasey insists, however, that Mac isn't taking Carver out because of their earlier misunderstandings.
"It's nice sometimes to see Mac have a worthy adversary or a boss who questions him," she says.  "Mac's a very moral guy. He's a guy who believes in authority and respects it tremendously. He expects it of the people who work for him and he sends it up the chain of command.
"They grow to a mutual trust," Veasey continues. "They go from being a boss and a subordinate to two men who just understand family, and they become more compassionate toward each other. As you peel back the onion, you find out how deeply personal it is to Carver and what involvement he had in his sister's death. He may not have committed a crime, but he played a significant part."
In fact, Larroquette says it's Mac's morals that end up sparing Carver in the end. "He's trying to keep Mac away from him because he knows how good Mac is," Larroquette says. "When he realizes he can't deflect him, he tells him, 'Do what you've got to do, but leave me the f--- alone until you've got what you want. Until you know something, don't come around sniffing.'
"Carver has a great deal of respect for Taylor's work," Larroquette says. "Mac goes out of his way to assist in not completely destroying this man's life as we find out what occurred."
Does that mean Larroquette — who will next make his Broadway debut opposite Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe in a yearlong run of How to Succeed in Business — might someday return to CSI: NY?
"It's something I'd be interested in doing," he says. "I think that perhaps by the end of the third episode that door is pretty much closed, but you never know."
Veasey says she thinks the ultimate resolution will create an emotional response. " It had editors sobbing in the edit room," she says. "Mac doesn't change his philosophy about what's right and wrong in cop work, but you do see his compassion and understanding. And you see John Larroquet

te's character respecting and understanding Mac. He ends up being thrilled that Mac is the man that he had to go through this ordeal with."
CSI: NY airs Friday at 9/8c on CBS.

Alex Trebek Will Guest Star on How I Met Your Mother

Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek will appear in the Christmas episode of How I Met Your Mother, show co-creator Carter Bays tells TV Guide Magazine exclusively. "It's our twisted version of A Christmas Carol-type story," Bays says of the December 13 episode, titled "False Positive." "We see what it takes to get people back on track and start leading the life they're supposed to be leading." Fun fact: Before finding his niche as the host of America's favorite quiz show, Trebek roomed in Los Angeles with recurring HIMYM guest and fellow Canadian Alan Thicke. "We were like the odd couple. He was the tidy one," says Thicke, who appears in the show's Robin Sparkles episodes.

Hot TV Series:November 15-18

How I Met Your Mother (Monday, 8/7c, CBS)
Some of the funniest moments in this sitcom's history involve Robin's shamefully cheesy past as Canadian child star "Robin Sparkles." Who can forget "Let's Got to the Mall" and "Sandcastles in the Sand," to name a magic few videos Robin would just as soon forget. This nagging skeleton once again emerges as Barney finds a copy of Space Teens, and this time we make the acquaintance of her co-star Jessica Glitter (played by Pussycat Doll and Dancing With the Stars champ Nicole Scherzinger). Let the good times roll, eh?
Glee (Tuesday, 8/7c, Fox)
If McKinley High's new substitute teacher looks familiar, it's because she's a movie star, the latest celeb to ride this pop-culture phenom's comet trail. Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow stunt-guests as Mr. Shue's fill-in when the glee-club leader falls ill, and her new approach sits well with New Directions. She's not the only fill-in making waves. Sue Sylvester takes over for an ailing Principal Figgins, and we all know what happens when power goes to this crazy lady's head.
Human Target (Wednesday, 8/7c, Fox)
Better late than never, and better Wednesdays than Fridays. That's the story of Human Target's delayed second-season premiere. Initially scheduled to premiere earlier this fall on Friday nights, it was moved to Wednesdays as part of a domino shuffle in the wake of Lone Star's instant cancellation. Good news for the offbeat action series, which probably would have died on Fridays. Joining the team of mercenary do-gooders this season are two female regulars: Indira Varma (currently on BBC America's Luther) as a megabucks philathropist, and Janet Montgomery as a master thief with a shady past.
The Big Bang Theory (Thursday, 8/7c, CBS)
Can we just say how good it is to have Penny (aka Kaley Cuoco) back from her thankfully brief horse-riding-accident-imposed hiatus? This week, she's joined by a familiar TV face: Keith Carradine (most recently seen on Dexter and Damages) as her dad, whose visit prompts a panicked Penny to rope Leonard into a lie. The episode is titled "The Boyfriend Complexity," so we're assuming things don't go all that smoothly for the princess across the hall.

At What Point Did The Simpsons Overstay its Welcome?

All good things must come to an end, or so the saying goes. Apparently Fox hasn't heard that idiom, as it has renewed The Simpsons for a 23rd season, which will bring the show's episode total to a whopping 515 episodes once it concludes.
It isn't exactly news to say many people think the show is running on fumes and isn't anywhere near the quality it use to be. But with 22 years under its belt, there's bound to be a wide range of moments when longtime fans of the 'toon threw up their arms, jumped ship, and declared themselves hardcore fans of The Simpsons no longer.
I remember my moment of disappointment very clearly. It happened during Season 12, and The Simpsons was already in its decline, but like someone who just doesn't know when to end a relationship that's run its course, I stuck with it and faithfully tuned in. Then the Simpsons went to Africa. It was the season's 17th episode, "Simpson Safari," and Bart and Homer were doing a traditional Maasai tribal dance when I lost it. After denying it for so long, everything suddenly became crystal clear: The Simpsons had become totally unrecognizable. I broke up with The Simpsons that night.
I asked a few  staffers to share the reasons why they ended their own affairs with The Simpsons, and I got the following responses: "Saddlesore Galactica," the untimely death of Phil Hartman (the voice of Troy McClure), and the emergence of South Park.
And now I ask you, handsome and charming readers, when The Simpsons went south for you. Or, if you think the series is still going strong, let us know why in the comments!

She's Brilliant, But Incredibly Awkward

Since Thirteen's departure on House, Princeton-Plainsboro has been a revolving door for the female doctors trying to fill the void. Now the team has found a keeper — and she's not even a doctor. Meet hyperintelligent, third-year med student Martha Masters (played by guest star Amber Tamblyn). Despite her age and lack of experience, Cuddy forces House and the team to give Martha a chance, but her morals clash big time with House's style. "She is incredibly brilliant, but sometimes she can be very socially awkward," says Tamblyn. "She's almost like a younger version of [House], only she believes in the ethics of truth-telling to a fault, just in a same way that he believes in lying to help you find the truth to a fault."
